Historisch zwart gat is zwaarder dan gedacht
Het bekende stellaire zwarte gat Cygnus X-1 is niet 15, maar 21 zonsmassa's zwaar. Dat blijkt uit nieuwe waarnemingen van sterrenkundigen van onder meer de Universiteit van Amsterdam. De resultaten zijn gepubliceerd in Science. De waarnemingen zijn goed nieuws voor astronomen, want daarmee wordt de kloof kleiner tussen lichte, stellaire zwarte gaten en middelzware zwarte gaten.
